Another week into the league season and unfortunately points were not gained from the visit to Sydney Parade. The County have now played 4 matches for a 2-2 record, with an important couple of weeks ahead (Terenure and Warringstown) the ship needs to be sailing full steam ahead in the right direction.
On Saturday North County won the toss and decided to field, hats off has to go to the Pembroke club and groundsman as the wickets look to be far superior to what they were last year and even had a little bounce!
It was a fresh wicket that was played on with plenty of grass and with a strong wind blowing the County bowlers got swing and seam throughout the day. After a couple of early wickets Pembroke skipper Moreton provided the anchor role for his team to bat around, he had an able partner in R.Bahl who was able to clear the fence with ease when required.
The Pembroke innings travelled along nicely without at any stage threatening to really cut loose, wickets fell at steady intervals and when the rain came Pembroke had reached 202/8, as the rain stayed around for a while the DL was introduced and raised a few eyebrows to say the least.
The DL is a strange beast and you could argue the Pros and Cons of it until the cows come home, but 1 thing is for certain it is the same for both sides so when the projected score was announced the County had the guidelines to construct a win. The County start was cautious and was approx 3 and a half and over after 10 overs, As we all know there has to be 20 overs to constitute a match so when the 20 over mark was reached County were ahead of the target and looking good for the overall target of 174. At this point County lost a couple of quick wickets and very quickly found themselves staring down the barrel of a loss with some menacing clouds arriving.........you guessed it, those clouds came in and it bucketed down! the match was over and County finished short of the DL target required after 23.5 overs. The result was a win to Pembroke. Mossy and Hay both scored in the 30s and a cameo of 20 odd from Reevo were the only innings worth noting.
On a day when every run was valuable when the DL kicked in, County will rue the fact that they bowled 16 wides and 4 no balls! an extra 3 overs bowled at Pembroke which accounted for at least 20 runs, all the bowlers were guilty of the sin and this coupled with dropped catches and sloppy fielding could well have been the difference on the day.
Although it is early doors in the league County will need to raise their game going forward to defend their title.

The weather on the day wasn't what North County wanted, the pitch wasn't exactly what we wanted either but at the end of the day the result is all that matters and County got what they wanted, an emphatic victory.
On a day that was giving rain Ballymena won the toss and strangely decided to bat, Getke and John Boy opened the bowling for County. The pitch was giving sideways movement to the seamers and very soon Ballymena were in trouble, the County seamers had knocked the top off the Ballymena batting line up. When the skipper, Bas Armstrong changed the bowling it started a period of tight bowling backed up by the customary sharp fielding. Choo Choo Richardson from the road end and Josh Reeves from the Dublin end bowled great lines and length eventually adding more scalps to the mounting list.
After Reeves finished a tight spell, Conor Sheils replaced him and the "Flash" was quickly into his work, he mopped up the tail to finish with 2 wickets from his 4 overs.
Choo Choo Richardson finished with the wickets but credit must go to all the seamers for their control on a day that not 1 ball was bowled by the County spinners.
As the Ballymena innings ended after 31 overs there was a quick 10 min turn a round and the County openers were facing up to chase the low total of 77. As with low totals sometimes a few wickets can fall and unfortunately today was such a day! Mossy, Richie and Doc all fell before the 77 runs were scored, luckily it didn't matter because John Boy Mooney batted like he had a train to catch(or a long drive to Bready?) and after a cautious start dispatched the bowling to all parts on his way to an unbeaten 40 off only 18 balls!. The game was won in the 9th over and the County were through to the 2nd round of the BKISC. County have drawn the dangerous Warringstown away on the 11th June, It should be the match of the round so clear the date in the diaries and be there to watch a cracker of a match!
