The 3rd team kick off their season tomorrow with a trip to Clondalkin in the YMCA Salver. This weekend's game is the first of two encounters against Clondalkin for the 3rd team in this summer's condensed schedule.
Irfan Arshad will captain the side this year and noted the important role of the 3rd team in helping the club's younger players continue their development.
"The 3rds have had a difficult few seasons recently. The positives being the fact that the team has been a spring board for young lads such as John Devane, Ciaran Sheridan, Ben McBride and adult players such as last year's 3rd team captain Pritish Onmalwar, who are now up on the 2nd team after earning their spot."
Despite recognising the 3rd team's struggles in recent years, Irfan is positive about the season ahead.
"With the recent change at the helm, I am delighted to announce that we will have a strong 3rd team this year. With debuts from Paras Goel, Manan Rafique, Sandy Sood and Mudassar Rajput, complemented by the stalwart John Andrews and Zia Mohuyddin with Daniel Mooney and Ciaran Mackey up from the 4th team, and indeed the returning Knights Ciaran Morrison and Rob O’Byrne, we look forward to the Goldfish Telecom YMCA Salver."
He is also keen to make sure the 3rd team continues to help younger players progress through the ranks. "The door is also wide open for young lads from the 4th team, after the selection committee sees consistent contributions from them."
