Our 4th team battled their way to a one wicket win over Greystones yesterday in the Minor Cup. The match was a hard-fought, close encounter played in great spirits by both teams. Our hosts were very welcoming and showed just how cricket should be played, ensuring an enjoyable afternoon for everyone in Druids Glen.
Fielding first after we lost the toss, a disciplined bowling performance saw us restrict Greystones to 110-6 off their 30 overs. Paddy Mann picked up two wickets for 27 runs off his 6 overs, while Rasen Naidoo and Ciaran Mackey also picked up a wicket each. A sharp performance in the field saw a further two wickets added through run-outs. Our chase was never going to be straightforward and the home side took wickets consistently throughout the innings. After both openers were removed, Ciaran Mackey (30) and Stephen Sludds (10) steadied the ship and looked to be seeing us to a comfortable victory. However, a few quick wickets saw the hosts come back into the game very quickly. There were small contributions and handy partnerships all the way down the order and a solid knock of 25 not out from Rasen eventually saw us over the line. The 4th team are rewarded with a place in the next round of the Minor Cup and a trip to Gorey this Sunday.
