Devane stars for 3rd team in opening matches

North County

Our 3rd team have enjoyed a steady start to their 2019 campaign, winning two games out of four so far. After a defeat against Tyrrelstown on the opening weekend, they bounced back to beat Pembroke by 5 wickets. Skipper Pritish Onmalwar gave us an account of the first of his side's two most recent matches against Phoenix.

"John Devane continued his sensational form against Phoenix 4ths with a well compiled 96. His innings included two huge sixes and seven boundaries. He has been batting well so far this season and got starts against Tyrrelstown 1 and Pembroke 4, but was unlucky to get out. I see John as one of the most promising and emerging talents at North County.

Although we went on to lose the match by just by 2 wickets, there were a lot of positives which we could take as a team. Keegan Laing took a couple of spectacular catches and both Yasir Mir and Asad Ali both bowled well and took two wickets each. Going forward, we hope we will be able to get over the finish line in tight matches like this."

A week later, Phoenix were once again the opposition, this time at Inch. A very good bowling performance saw Phoenix bowled out for 127. Yasir Mir and Asad Ali once again bowled very well, this time taking three wickets each. Captain Pritish, Ben McBride and Kiran Patil were also among the wickets. John Devane scored 46 and shared a strong opening partnership of 86 with Kiran Patil before he was run out for 36. Irfan Arshad hit three 6s in quick succession to seal a win by 6 wickets.
